Harrison & Crossfield. Scott & English. Fraser & Neave. Jarrod and Rawlins. All terribly familiar English companies that have left their imprint on colonial Malaya. Right? Actually, no, not at all. There's nothing English about Jarrod & Rawlins, nor anything vaguely colonial about Jarrod & Rawlins. The brainchild of made-in-Malaysia partners Jarrod Chek and Denis Rawlins, Jarrod & Rawlins has only been in existence for slightly more than a year since it opened its doors in Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. However, it has left an indelible impact on the areas food and beverage scene.
"Purveyors of fine food and wine" is how Chek and Rawlins have chosen to describe their outfit. It's not quite a pub atmosphere despite all the beer and wine being imbibed. More like a hang out for the regulars who congregate there for the convivial atmosphere, great food and good service. Jarrod & Rawlins has become a popular hang-out for some professionals who are drawn to the deli offerings, and the selection of wine and imported beer. It is however the deli counter that is causing the buzz. Jarrod & Rawlins garnered good reputation for their sausages. There are the ever-popular bangers, Chorizo, Pork Oriental, Pork with Sarawak Pepper and Lamb and Cranberry. Apart from the well stocked wine shelves, there is also a section selling olive oils, balsamic vinegar, relish, pickles and the like. Basically they tempt you to eat and drink well at the deli. |
